20. Emperors Yan and Huang, China


The sculpture of the Chinese emperors – Yan Di and Huang Di – is located in Zhenghou. They have an overall height of 348 feet.. The construction took 20 years, and the statues were inaugurated in 2007.

19. Statue of Liberty, New York


Situated on Liberty Island in New York City, the 151-foot-tall copper statue was a gift to the U.S. from the people of France. The dedication ceremony on Oct. 28, 1886, was presided over by President Grover Cleveland.

18. Monument to Our Lady of Peace, Venezuela


Located in Trujilo, the statue commemorates the Virgin Mary. Made of concrete, it is nearly 153 feet high and 52 feet wide.

17. African Renaissance Monument, Senegal


Sitting on a volcanic hill, the 160.7-foot-high bronze statue is located just outside Dakar. Depicting an African family, it was built to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the country’s independence. Its construction, which began in 2006, was completed in 2010.

16. Guanyin of Mount Xiqiao, China


Located on Mount Xiqiao, the statue is bronze-plated and surrounded by a moat. It is 203 feet tall and sits on a pedestal with a height of 49.2 feet.

15. The Motherland Monument, Ukraine


Locally called Brezhnev’s Daughter, the statue is made of titanium and is part of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in World War II, in Kiev. Measuring 203 feet, it is symbolic of the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany.

14. Leshan Giant Buddha, China


The 233-foot-high monument is the largest stone Buddha statue in the world. Its construction began in the year 713; after about 90 years, it was completed in the year 803. In 1996, it was listed a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

13. Guan Yin Statue, Hong Kong


Located in the Tsz Shan Monastery, the monument towers at 249 feet. The bronze statue is covered with white fluorocarbon self-cleaning paint. A large water bronze vessel called the Thousand Wishes Pond is situated in the front of the statue.

12. The Motherland Calls, Russia


Built to commemorate the Soviet martyrs of the Battle of Stalingrad (1942-43), the statue is atop the Mamayev Hill in Volgograd. It stands at a height of 170 feet, with an additional height of 108 feet for the towering sword. It was dedicated in 1967.

Measuring 289 feet, the statue and its lotus pedestal are made of 2,000 sheets of bronze. To reach the monument, one needs to climb the Ascending Cloud Avenue that consists of 216 stairs. Its construction was completed in 1996.

10. Hokkaido Kannon, Japan


Located in the Kita no Miyako park within the city of Ashibetsu, the statue measures 289 feet. It depicts Guanyin and contains over 20 floors, each housing shrines and places of worship. Construction of the monument began in 1975, and was completed in 1989.

9. Great Buddha of Thailand

Housed within the Wat Muang monastery in Ang Thong province, the statue is 300 feet high. It is made of cement and coated with golden paint. Its construction began in 1990 and completed in 2008.

8. Guishan Guanyin, China

The 325-foot-tall statue is a gilded bronze monument that depicts the form of Avalokitesvara. Located in Weishan, its construction was completed in 2009.

7. Sendai Daikannon, Japan


Located in Sendai, the Kannon statue is about 328 feet tall. The interior is divided into 12 layers, which houses 108 Buddha statues. It was completed in September 1991.

6. Guanyin of Nanshan, China

Located in Sanya, the statue of the Buddhist goddess of compassion is 354 feet high. It has three faces – one facing inland while the other two face the South China Sea. It was opened in 2005, after six years of construction.

5. Garuda Wisnu Kencana Statue, Indonesia

Situated within the Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park, the 394-foot-high statue is of the Hindu god Vishnu riding the great Garuda. It comprises 24 segments and is made of copper and brass. It was inaugurated in 2018.

4. Ushiku Daibutsu, Japan


The statue depicting Amitabha Buddha is made of bronze and measures 394 feet, including the base and lotus platform. Located in Ibaraki Prefecture, it was completed in 1993. There’s an observation deck at the height of 279 feet, which can be accessed by an elevator.

3. Laykyun Setkyar, Myanmar

Measuring about 427 feet, including the base, the statue depicts a standing Buddha. Its construction began in 1996 and finished in 2008. Visitors can go to the top through an elevator to get magnificent views of the city, including the lying Buddha in front.

2. Spring Temple Buddha, China


Located in Lushan County of Henan, the world’s second-tallest statue measures 503 feet. Built in 2002, it depicts Vairocana Buddha standing on a lotus throne.

Dedicated to the nation’s first deputy prime minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the statue stands at 597 feet in the Indian state of Gujarat. Construction of the figure commenced on Oct. 31, 2013. Once inaugurated on Oct. 31, 2018, by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it will be the tallest statue in the world
