If the Covid-19 pandemic has taught us anything, it is to value our loved ones. The deadly and invisible enemy could snatch them from our lives in a matter of hours, leaving us even without the possibility of saying goodbye to them.

Such was the case of Jonathan Coelho, 32, who, after winning the battle against cancer, was infected with coronavirus and, he died unable to hug his young children and beloved wife. However, he found a way to tell them how much he loved them, leaving a hidden message on his cell phone.

Life changes in an instant

The doctors told him that he would get out of this easily, but as the hours passed, everything became complicated.

Their battle lasted 28 days, 20 of them passed intubated. The last eight days in the hospital seemed favorable, Jonathan showed improvements, the ventilator was removed and his wife Katie Coelho, 33, was happy and grateful to the medical staff.

Katie expected her husband to be released in a few days, but a nurse’s call changed her life. Upon arrival at the hospital, Jonathan had lost the battle, dying of cardiac arrest from Covid-19. Neither he nor her children had the opportunity to say goodbye.

One last letter

Katie entered the room where her husband had been and took his belongings, including his mobile phone. For some reason, she wanted to take all the photos of her husband and children from that cell phone, and it was then that she found the emotional farewell letter that her husband managed to write:

I love you with all my heart, guys, you have given me the best life I could have asked for. I am so lucky that I am very proud to be your husband and the father of Braedyn and Penny. Katie, you are the kindest and most caring person I have ever met. You are truly unique. Make sure you live life with happiness and that same passion that made me fall in love with you. Seeing that you are the best mother of our children.

Tell Braedyn that he is my best friend and that I am proud to be his father and all the amazing things he has done and continues to do. Let Penelope know that she is a princess and that she can be whatever she wants in life.

I am so lucky. Don’t stop; if you know someone who loves children and loves you, I want you to know that I would love that. Be always happy!
