Many of us would like to enjoy this confinement in an island paradise, with beaches of white sand and turquoise blue waters, such as the Maldives. However, after learning the story of a South African couple, it may not be such a good idea. Olivia and Raúl de Freitas decided to spend their honeymoon at the Cinnamon Velifushi Resort. They arrived on March 22, initially only to spend six days. But they’ve been there for almost a month.
At that time, the countries gradually began to close their borders. In Spain, the State of Alarm was already decreed. But the newlyweds spoke with their travel agent, who assured them that they could make the trip without any problem since they could return to South Africa on the scheduled date.
However, after the airports closed, they were unable to return home, and since late March, they have been the only guests at this luxury resort. As they explain themselves, everyone wants to be trapped on a tropical island, but nobody knows what it is until it really happens to you.
Surely by now, you are wondering who is responsible for the accommodation expenses. Well, even though the couple has received a discount from the resort, as time goes by, their savings gradually run out. Also, they are very afraid that the situation will get worse.
They could only enjoy four days of honeymoon in complete tranquility. It was on the fourth day that they learned that South African airports, as well as those of other countries in the world, would close before midnight. They couldn’t go home.
The South African blockade will last at least until April 16, so we hope that the story of this couple has a happy ending.
